Watching comedians is a laughbuster. If we are in stress due to personal related things comedy is the only genre can keep us cheered up.
The genre of comedy can be lived up to expectation only if the director have a great knowledge of humour. Comedians may try their best but the output has to be appealing.
I want to share my views on Kollywood comedians, over the years how well they have structured in the world of comedy. Many of you may have different opinions and please do share your opinions. It’s good to discuss about comedians and how well the genre has changed over the years.
I‘ve been watching Tamil movies for almost all my life. As the years moving rapidly Tamil cinema as improved by giving consistence hits and I would say comedians plays major part in the role. The reason why I am saying this there’s bunch of fans has expectations in their respective lists, comedy is one of them. I’m not saying genres like Thrillers or drama that’s totally out of equation.
Back then hen there were so many legendary comedians like Goundamani, senthil etc. How did they constantly make us laugh? Well we would say old is gold right. The reason why they constantly making us laugh it’s because how they use sense of humour. They equally portray the scene with a equal timing as well as how a real life event can be captured into a film. That’s why so many upcoming comedians taking them as a inspirations.
Small info about old comedy movies and why should director of this generations should take notes.
I would say K.Balachandar has captured comedy genre like a peanuts. For example ‘Thillu Mullu’ which was released back in 1981. Why Thillu Mullu will be one of the unique comedy movies of all time? It’s because of K.B written the story , portrayed the characters and keeping the audiences in mind to deliver the right content. It was more of a breezy entertainer back in the day which we can’t hardly get in current generations.
The reason I‘ve mentioned ’Thillu mullu’ in this article, to give my prespective on directors who are currently utulising comedians. I’m not saying they should do what KB has done. What I am saying is atleast generate some ideas from the movies and expand that kind of humour into the new generations.
As years gone by where Goundamani and Senthil time were up. Vadivelu and Vivek has came across to take over the job. These two will be one of most comedians we would ever witness in our generations, it’s worked for them because the audience got connected like they were used to see what Goundamani and Senthil has delivered, however there’s a huge difference between Vivek and Vadivelu’s comedies.
Let‘s starts of Vadivelu. He has captured kids to family audiences. For kids expression is enough to make them laugh, however for pulling family audiences you will need a trendsetter jokes and comedy should be naturally connected. Vadivelu truly has these qualities. Each characters he justifies is where he succeeded the most. I believe back in 2004 onwards we could see him in back to back to releases which was a huge assest for him. In a commercial potboiler if you want comedy then Vadivelu would’ve been the number choice.
Whereas Vivek his comedy captures the audience only through his acting and dialogues however he has the quality where he brings meaningful dialogue and portrays it in comedic sense which works really well.
With the my views on these two Santhanam has arrived. He took his route and achieved as a current best comedians till he turned as a hero.
When Santhanam was the number one option for majority directors , the comedy structure has been flowing well. Likes of soori, Robo Shankar were recieving appreciations but Santhanam stood firm until he had turned into hero not many comedians gave us the same flow.
The reason is it‘s hard to give a good comedy scenes now it’s because the material hasn’t been consistent and they can’t copy the gold formula.
Yes commercial films needs comedy now and there but it won’t work. The reasons the director not giving that much of a time to think to themselves how can they approach to the audience in a different way. If they think about their ideas and not thinking about audiences point of view how will it work.
Directors who has a great knowledge about comedy and how to approach an comedic character in a more successful way is what Kollywood needs right now.
I personally feel Comedy films should go in a different route and avoid comedies in a commercial films which it will make the film more healthier. That’s when comedy films may grow and directors can generate more of how to approach a new product.
