Fazil is one of the most prominent directors in Malayalam film industry. He has even many memorable hits for big stars. It was very unusual to Malayalam audiences that he would go Tamil to remake one of his classic love story and story of his own.
Since then Vijay was having a shaky time in his career. He graph was like a 1 to 1 pattern, giving hits and flops. He seriously needed a change and push his growth even more.
That’s when Kadhalukku Mariyadhai existed. This was Vijay’s second blockbuster in his career after Poove Unakkaga.Many of you may know Kunchacko Boban reprised this role in the original version.
What made Fazil to choose Vijay to do this remake?
If we see Vijay’s film back in 1994-96 he had the scope to become as a romantic hero. He body language and expressions were so impressive so why not he can’t do a movie like Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. Even though those films before KM released was a failures, he had the qualities in him to prove the audiences that he can be a romantic hero.
In KM there weren’t that much of a differences.The way Fazil handled Vijay as a performer was the highlight. He hasn’t given him so much stress. He handled Vijay how he would’ve handled Kunchacko Boban.
There were so many scenes which stole audiences hearts. I particularly liked the climax. The way Fazil handled the situation is where the audiences clapped. The emotions and naturally presented performances made it so pleasant.
Fazil always get’s his character selection spot on. He may add few others frequently, that’s because as a director he‘s wish too see actors in different dimension. It’s always nice to explore different ways of acting.
After mega BB KM he always may thought let’s do another movie with Thalapathy Vijay.
That’s when Kannakul Nilavu existed. This was Vijay’s 25th movie. As an 25th film he did take an interesting subject which was romantic psychological thriller.
The way Fazil had written the characters was pure imagination. He wanted to switch things up and make it a intense watch. You may write a epic character but your visionary has to match the standards.
Holy moly Fazil did execlled Vijay into the character so well. For example the scene where Vijay gets locked in the room and he wanted to get out so he transformed as he calmed down. The transformation, the intensity and the body language, hats off to both.
Shalini and Sri Vidya has worked with Vijay for the second time. Shalini is a good pair and Sri Vidya is absolute loving mother to both. The industry is truly missing her. All the actresses who acting as Mothers can take many inspirational moments from her.
Kannakul Nilavu hasn’t been spoken much amongst the fans. The reason is unknow, however this film is very important film in Vijay’s career. It may have been a failure but as a fan this film is always in my heart.
The reason why Fazil-Vijay combo is gold, they have the understanding what they clearly want. Not saying all the other directors which Vijay had worked with isn’t good enough, this combo has the special bond between them.
