96 movie review

Writer's picture: NisanthNisanth

Starting with Prem Kumar‘s thought to make a love story surrounded with memories and emotions is definently a right call for his debut movie. Kudos to him. ‘96’ is a must watch movie. It will bring you back the memories of your first ever love.

Starting from the opening scene till the end you would feel some sort of way that you haven’t felt in a long time. Some heavy hearted and pulse setting moments will trigger you into the film.

Aaditiya Bhasakar and Gouri G KI dhan who reprised younger version of VJS and Trisha characters.

Whenever you bring a young talent to reprise a younger character for the star it has to be very staged and unique. I thought Prem has utilised these really well. What I really like about these two is they used exact use of emotions to make it believable. As a school students, how would they love , what kind of emotions would they use and what level of performance will make the audience to appreciate is all the key factors. These two has succeeded all these catergroies.

I loved Aadithya’s shyness and his nervousness. He totally wrapped it up with ease. He doesn’t have much of an dialogue, he had more of an emotions, whereas Gouri was more of a lively girl and has attitude at sometimes. Those kind of gesture in her character made more realistic and stayed connected.

Both of these performance are worth it appreciated.

After many years these two meets none other than VJS and Trisha. Prem has focused on these two in the second half. You may think it’s going another oridinary love story but truly speaking it is different from the pass love story that Tamil cinema had.

Prem has observed many ideas to write about these two characters. They emotions changes each situation every now and then. The heart to heart moments they had, they wanted to be recreated so taking the time of their own and explore was a good option.

Drama will be seen through the convosation that‘s when we see some intensity aswell as relieve. Just before the interval there was a ultimate take by VJS. That particular scene shows VJS is in his own world but at the same time he felt so nervous and didn’t know what to do when Trisha comes over. That small of acting VJS takes the entire scene to the next level. Absolute a performer!

I would say this Trisha’s best after ‘Abhiyum Naanum’ and ‘VTV’. She had a lot of acting scope as Janu. She had the freedom to explore her character at the end result she has acted out phenomenally. Chemistry between her and VJS has worked so well. Bonded well.

Cinematography and Music

Shanmugam Sundaram cinematography was outstanding. Some locations he has filmed was so lively and you could feel the realness of the nature. Beginning of the movie will blow you away.

Govind Menon‘s music and bgm has been the biggest plus for this movie. The bgm would make us feel the passion and pain of love. Sometimes you would feel some type of way that you want to go back to your memories and cherish the moment once again. He totally has put a stamp on our hearts and conveying a message ’ never forget about your first love’

Music has been so soulful and well oriented. Will be one of the memorable albums that we ever experienced for sure.

overall: it’s a simple love story which has been portrayed so blisfully with extra special care written for Ram and Jaanu. Must watch!

Full marks for this beautifully well made product!
